New Tesco may close other shops
PLANS for a new Tesco store in Bourne End look set to be rejected due to the affect it will have on other traders.
The supermarket want to build an Express store and four flats in The Parade, Bourne End.
But officers at Wycombe District Council have recommended the plans be rejected at next Wednesday's development control committee.
Although the final decision will be made by councillors.
Officers said there is no need for the Tesco store and that other shops in the area may have to close if permission was granted.
A new small Sainsbury's store has also already been given the go-ahead in Parade Court, Bourne End.
The report to the committee said: "The cumulative impact of the proposed development along with the permitted retail development could result in the closure of existing stores in the District Centre which is likely to have an adverse impact on the vitality and viability of the Bourne End Local District Centre."

At last! Tesco being told where to go!!
They’re corporate bullies whose lawyers are paid a lot of money for the company to get its own way all the time - its about time that Tesco was broken up like BT for being too big a company!
But then again the company pays a lot of money into the Labour Party coffers!

Let Bourne End have a Tesco, if they fear the other shops will close it's because the ordinary people will use Tesco!! Power to the ordinary people who are fed up with 'intellectuals' telling them what's good for them all the time!

I wonder if tesco will buy the somerfield site off the co-op???? They wouldn't need planning permission much unless they wanted a cash point new signs etc but that wouldn't take much.

Why would anyone want a tesco when you can buy mouldy bread and out of date yougurt in the the Coop...that is of course if they ever serve you !! Bourne End has to move with the times.... somerfield should have seized the oppty but havent. All they need to do now is make the parade expensive pay and display to encourage people to park in the big car park ! Save all the parking rage

Its all about freedom of choice. Build the store and give the people the choice. I expect however, that they will shop with their heads, not their hearts. Which is why the larger, potentially cheaper store will win out.

Me, I grow my own veg and fruit. I raise chickens and ducks and can make a meal from almost anything. Living in the poorest and most desalate parts of the world (and now Wycombe) has taught me self sufficiency and preservation and made me appreciate what is available.

Tescos is a large greedy patronising mosnter and anyone who thinks that they care about the "ordinary person" needs to think again. ALL they care about is profit and they do not care who they damage on the way.

Sorry i do not buy into this power for the people c**p. You get what you pay for - Tesco will get the monopoly in all areas and then it will be too late. Prices for erubbish food will go up.
I would rather be a thinking person with a conscience than a drone in Tescos empire. :)

She was surcharged several million punds by the audit commission and chose to flee the country rather than pay. These are the people behind Tesco.

well with a CO-op and Summerfields in Bourne End you don't need any more supermarket chains there! WDC are right on this! and given their response to Fernley-Witingstall'
s fresher chickens, I won't be buying meat from them in the future! I'd rather go to a butchers!

The same Tesco which stalled t he development of Wycombe town centre because they would not move their store. A shame as Eden could have looked a lot better ie. without the monstrocity which is the Tesco store. I suppose they'll get their come uppance however as the new Sainsbury's will be a lot more appealing and is closer to the bus station for elderly shoppers.

With the large supermarket chains all singing from the same hymn sheet why make Tesco's the villain?
There is no legal reason for the council to refuse Tesco, it is just 'Bloody Mindedness'.
I have always found Bourne End a dire place to shop, it is about time the area was dragged screaming into the 21st century.
