New top team at council

THE top team at Wycombe District Council tonight underwent a reshuffle.

Councillor Lesley Clarke and Cllr David Carroll remain leader and deputy leader while four out of the seven remaining cabinet posts have new faces.

Cllr Tony Green takes over from Cllr Jean Teesdale for younger and older people.

Cllr Hugh McCarthy takes on the economic development and transportation brief from Cllr Bill Jennings.

Cllr John Savage takes up the new post of member for outside partnerships while Cllr Jean Teesdale is now member for planning and sustainability.

Leader Cllr Clarke was praised by Cllr McCarthy at the changeover at tonight's annual meeting of the council.

He said of her five-years in the post: "They have been good years for the leader and Conservative administration but, most importantly, for this council."

The opening of High Wycombe's Eden shopping centre was a particular achievement, he said.

"There is more to come in this following year and I am sure Councillor Clarke is able to deliver some of the goals that are on our horizon."

The council's plan to rebuild Wycombe Sports Centre and take over the district parking warden service from police are key priorities, Cllr Clarke told the Bucks Free Press after the meeting.

The new sport centre should be easily accessible and in the Town so more people can use it easier and they also need to sort out a new location for Wanderers and the Wasps, with direct routes to the motorway.

Installing a proper fountain on Frogmoor would have been a better achievement.

Never before in the history of local government have so many ne'er-do-wells been attracted to the comp lifestyle that being a councillor now offers!

These pleasantons are paying their mortgages at our expense - it was never meant to be that way.

The role of councillor was meant to attract the most brilliant in a local communtiy who would operate out of a sense of civic duty!
